Windows® 2000 Professional and Windows® XP Professional
Limited or Restricted User Account Settings

The following is applicable to AES labs using Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP operating systems on computers with hard drives formatted with the NTFS file system (instead of FAT32). It is applicable to iTRAC systems, including:

§  techcenter21

§  BusinessCenter21 (iTRAC only)

§  LifeCenter21

OVERVIEW:

On each student station, change the default Security settings to allow FULL CONTROL for all of the following:

§  The iTRAC install path folder (typically C:\TC21_EXE)

§  The AES Common folder (typically C:\Acommon)

§  The TC21.ini file (typically C:\Windows\Tc21.ini or C:\WINNT\Tc21.ini)

 

Procedure: (this procedure is for Windows® XP Professional, but is similar with Windows® 2000 Professional.)

1.     Confirm a Security Tab is available in the Properties for the folders and files. If there is no Security Tab in the properties menus, you will need to activate the Security Tab using the following:

§  Click Start, and then click Control Panel

§  Open Folder Options (click on the Tools drop-down menu and select Folder Options…)

§  On the View tab, under Advanced Settings, CLEAR Use simple file sharing (Recommended) (de-select it)

2.     Right-click on the folder or file being changed and click Properties.

3.     Click the Security tab.

4.     Click to select the User from the list of authorized Users. (Student, Teacher, etc.)

5.     In the Permissions for Users window, click Full Control (the security option in the Allow column).

6.     Repeat this procedure for all of the above files and folders, for all User accounts for this Lab.
