Tech Tip # 0219

iTRAC: Download Software Update or Patch

CRITICAL: READ BEFORE STARTING THE PROCESS: If you are running Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP operating systems on student or teacher stations, do NOT complete this tech tip unless logged on with full Administrative privileges—the patch or update will download and install software.

If you attempt to download the updates on the teacher station, the student stations will "see" that there is a newer version of iTRAC and will attempt to install it. Without full permissions, the student stations will fail. So it is essential to log on to ALL student stations with full administrative privileges BEFORE downloading the latest updates at your teacher station.

Do not download and install updates while students are using the lab.

1.     At the Lab Management Station, exit all software back to the Windows® desktop.

2.     Disable any file protection software.

3.     Open the Toolbox (Start > Programs > TechCenter or LifeCenter or BusinessCenter > Toolbox).

4.     Double-click Check for Software Updates. If you do not have a Check for Software Updates utility, do the following. Otherwise, go to step 5.

§  Double-click Customer Service Utilities.

§  Scroll down the left side and click the Other icon.

§  Click on the Check for Software Updates button.

5.     If there is an available update, verify that the version noted matches the version installed. For example, if you have v1.2 installed, it should say 1.2.xxx … if you have v2.0 installed, it should say 2.0.xxx. If it has the incorrect version, call AES for assistance.

6.     Click OK to start the download process. Once the download is finished, it will automatically install the newest build.

7.     Go to the student stations and launch TechCenter or LifeCenter or BusinessCenter. The update will be installed on the student stations. Again, if you have Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP operating systems, you MUST log onto the stations with the teacher or Administrator logon to ensure that the patch can install itself (student computer logons typically do not have correct permissions to install programs).
