Personal Finance Lessons

This module provides an understanding of how personal choices affect financial circumstances which impacts lifestyle. Students will increase financial knowledge so they can manage financial decisions.

 

Unit: Determine Living Costs


Description
In this activity, students will begin to understand the idea of salaries and the cost of living for adults as they see costs for rent, food, transportation, insurance, etc.

 

Unit: Earning Income


Description
In this unit, students will learn about: how real-life decisions impact financial opportunity and growth via The Earning Potential Game. Then students learn about forms of income.

Unit: Managing Your Money


Description
In this unit, students will learn about: life skills such as reading pay stubs, balancing bank registers, writing checks, budgeting, and making informed purchasing decisions.

Unit: Using Credit


Description
In this unit, students will learn about: consumer credit and borrowing money through loans and credit cards.

Unit: Reflection Questions and Discussion


Description
In this activity, students will journal about possible career choices that would fit lifestyle and interest goals, budgeting, and credit score. A class discussion can follow.

 

Unit: Budgeting


Description
In this activity, students define budget, discuss whether or not they have ever budgeted, determine the purpose of a budget and create a budget.

 

Unit: Current Event


Description
Students will review articles for information related to a topic in the module. Once an article is found, students complete a Current Event form.
